One of the oldest styles of basketry - It predates history - The baskets were used in pairs - one lined with cheese cloth and the other as a strainer to seperate the curds from the whey. Cheese got its name from basket in both Latin, cascus; and Greek, formos. The Shakers standardized cheese baskets over molds to fit cheese presses.
